What is a lead sheet?
A lead sheet is a more detailed version of a chord chart that adds the vocal melody and rhythm, and may contain chord diagrams.
You are likely to see a lead sheet instead of a chord chart if you play on a worship team with orchestral instruments like a choir, piano, organ, violin, cello, trumpet, or saxophone. They provide more detail and guitarists can use them too.
They are actually longer (more pages) because every single note is written out. Sometimes people use the terms interchangeably but if someone hands you a "lead sheet" and it just has chords and lyrics, that's a chord chart.
